Opening hours vary throughout the year. We've provided high-season opening hours; hours
will generally decrease in the shoulder and low seasons.
Banks 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, sometimes 9am to noon Saturday
Restaurants 7am to 9pm
Bars and clubs 8pm to 2am
Shops 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday
Arriving in Costa Rica
Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaria (San José) Alajuela-San José buses (US$0.75)
run frequently between 5am and 10pm and will drop you off anywhere along Paseo Colón.
Taxis charge from US$20 to US$30 (depending on your destination in San José) and de-
part from the official stand; the trip takes 20 minutes to an hour. Many rental-car agencies
have desks at the airport.
Getting Around
Bus Very reasonably priced, with extensive coverage of the country, though travel can be
slow and some destinations have infrequent service.
