This aging lodge was in the midst of an ownership change at the time of research, so its fu-
ture is fuzzy. Suffice to say, the new ownership is committed to preserving its 250 hectares
of primary forest and 50 hectares of secondary-growth forest. The 14km of hiking trails
aren't going anywhere, either, and nor are those spectacular lake and volcano views.
Look for the sign 4.5km west of Nuevo Arenal, then turn 3km down a steep, unpaved
road.
Lucky Bug B&B

Set on a rainforest lagoon, the five blissfully isolated bungalows at the Lucky Bug feature
works and decorative details by local artisans. Here are blond-wood floors, wrought-iron
butterflies, hand-painted geckos, and mosaic washbasins and end tables. Each room is
unique and captivating. There's a rainforest trail in the grounds and kayaks for use on the
lagoon.

room for an irresistible dessert. Savor it all along with the spectacular views of Laguna de
Arenal. This is your perfect pitstop or sunset vantage point. It's 20.5km west of Nuevo
Arenal.
