Arenal Lodge is at the top of a steep 2.5km ascent, though the entire lodge is awash with
views of Arenal and the surrounding cloud forest. Standard rooms are just that, but the
spacious junior suites are tiled and have wicker furniture and a picture window or balcony
with volcano views. A blue macaw hangs out in the lobby.
The ground is crisscrossed by hiking trails, and the lodge also has a Jacuzzi, a billiards
room, a restaurant and private stables.

About 22km west of the dam, this lovely, laid-back lodge overlooks a magnificent 54m
ceiba tree. Seven spacious, Spanish-tiled rooms are hung with original paintings and fron-
ted by Maya-inspired carved doors. Each room has rustic artifacts, polished-wood ceilings
and vast views of Laguna de Arenal. The tropical gardens and spacious terrace make this
mountaintop spot a tranquil retreat.
