If you have your own transport, consider staying at the Arenal Observatory Lodge (

church. Six sweet fan-cooled rooms have lofty ceilings, tile floors, colorful paint jobs and
big windows. The spacious common area includes a fully-equipped kitchen, two balconies
with volcano views, and a homey living room, well stocked with books, games and funky
artwork. The live-in owner is a gracious host.
