Since 1993 Aeropuerto Internacional Daniel Oduber Quirós (LIR;
www.liberiacostaricaairport.net ) , 12km west of Liberia, has served as the country's second in-
ternational airport, providing easy access to all those beautiful beaches without the hassle
of San José. In January 2012 it unveiled its sleek, mod new US$35-million terminal.
The majority of international flights still go to the USA and Canada, in addition to some
regional flights on Copa Air (to Panama) and Taca (to Guatemala). Domestic flights
mainly go to San José.

To/From the Airport
There are no car-rental desks at the airport; make reservations in advance, and your com-
pany will meet you at the airport with a car. Taxis from Liberia to the airport are about
US$20. Or you can catch a bus in front of the Mercado Municipal (30 minutes, hourly)
which runs from 5:30am to 6:30pm, Monday through Friday only.
BUS
Buses arrive at and depart from Terminal Liberia ( GOOGLE MAP ; Av 7 btwn Calles 12 & 14)
and Terminal Pulmitan ( GOOGLE MAP ; Av 5 btwn Calles 10 & 12) . Routes, fares, journey
times and departures are as follows:
Cañas US$2; 1½ hours; departs Terminal Liberia every 30 minutes from 5am to
9:30pm. It's quicker to jump off the San José-bound bus in Cañas.
Curubandé US$2, 40 minutes, departs Terminal Liberia at 6:40am, noon and 5pm.
Juntas de Abangares US$3.50, two hours, departs Terminal Liberia at 3:50pm.
La Cruz/Peñas Blancas US$2.50; 1½ to two hours; departs Terminal Liberia hourly
from 5am to 6pm.
