Río Perdido HOT SPRINGS
( 2673-3600; www.rioperdido.com ; thermal canyon & river adult/child US$40/30)
This fabulous new facility - set amid an otherworldly volcanic landscape - is a wonderful
way to soak in the soothing waters of Miravalles. The 'thermal canyon experience' includes
a guided hike along the river, with plenty of opportunities to swim in the luscious cool-
ness, before arriving at the thermal river, where termperatures range from 32°C to 46°C.
There's a swim-up bar, hanging bridges and glorious views all around.
If you care to spend the night (or several) at Rio Perdido, eco-chic bungalows (singles/
doubles US$204/250) are contemporary and cool, with polished-concrete floors, bold pat-
terns, lots of windows and raised terraces facing the forest.
Thermo Manía HOT SPRING
( 2673-0233; www.thermomania.net ; adult/child US$12/10; 8am-10pm; )
The biggest complex in the area has some Disney-Flintstone queso (cheese) to it, but there
are 11 thermal pools, which range from lukewarm to warm. The upper pool complex has a
swim-up bar and waterslide. Much more tasteful are the five stone pools and sauna in the
leafy lower sector. There's also a full spa (with private mud baths), playground, museum,
soccer field and picnic tables. Families love it here.
Guests who stay in the 26 log-cabin rooms (per adult/child from US$44/30) have free
access to the pools during their stay, with TV and cold-water bathroom (neatly counterbal-
ancing the lack of cold-water pools).
El Guayacán HOT SPRING
( 2673-0349; www.termaleselguayacan.com ; adult/child US$10/8; 8am-10pm; )
Just behind Thermo Manía, this is a family finca that's hissing and smoking with vents and
mud pots. There are eight thermal pools and one cold pool with a water slide. You can also
take a guided tour of the fumaroles (stay on the trail!). If you wish to spend the night, bed
down in one of the clean, cold-water cabinas (singles/doubles from US$30/60) brushed in
bright colors or in a spacious villa with kitchenette.
