Volcán Tenorio Area
Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio, part of the Area de Conservación Arenal (ACA), is one
of the highlights of northwestern Costa Rica. It's a cool, misty, magical place highlighted
by cloud forests and the icy blue Río Celeste, the region's namesake. The park entrance is
located just north of Bijagua (pronounced 'bee-hag-gwa'). If you have your own wheels,
the park is a fairly long but certainly doable day trip from Liberia or Cañas, but there are
some fabulous mountain lodges in the area, so spend the night if you have the time.
