When you sit down to eat in a restaurant, it is polite to say buenos días (good morning),
buenas tardes (good afternoon) or buenas noches (good evening) to the waitstaff and any
people you might be sharing a table with - and it's generally good form to acknowledge
everyone in the room this way. It is also polite to say buen provecho, which is the equival-
ent of bon appetit, at the start of the meal.
