where i av is the average slope, and n is determined for the tailings.
The master profile is different for each type of tailings. The particle size, specific grav-
ity and solids content of the tailings all affect the profile. Blight (1988) indicates that the
master profile applies, almost regardless of the length of the beach, and hence laboratory
flume tests can be used to predict the behaviour of the dam.
