4 L.A.'S TOP DAY SPAS
L.A.'S WESTSIDE & BEVERLY HILLS
Bliss Los Angeles Located at the W Hotel, this outpost of a popular New York
spa is part of a new breed of day spas that are more about sass than Zen. You won't find
classical or wave-simulated music here; instead, it's rhythm and blues. Forget the lemon
water in the women 's lounge, and look for the br ownie bar. The men get spor ts maga-
zines, heated shaving cream, and a flatscreen TV in their lounge. There's a retail boutique,
three movie-while-you-manicure nail stations, and 10 tr eatment rooms in the second-
floor, 7,000-square-feet space. And just like the vibe, the menu offers up something a
little bit different, like the hot milk and almond pedicur e ($65 for 60 min.); carr ot and
sesame-seed body buff ($165); the “hango ver herbie” detoxifying package ($215); and
the ultra-relaxing Blissage 75 massage ($125), what they call a “ virtual countdown to
'butter'.” 930 Hilgard Ave. (at the W Hotel), Westwood. & 323/930-0330. www.blissworld.com.
Kinara Spa & C afé Whether y ou're a H ollywood starlet primping for a big
night or just pr etending to be, Kinara is a one-stop location for ev erything you'll need.
The multifaceted space—a day spa, boutique, cafe, and salon—is subtle, but not bar e;
calm but not Zen; natural but not serious. Spa services range in price from $30 to $110,
with multi-tr eatment packages star ting at $225. N ot bad for a place that attracts the
toned and the beautiful H alle Berry, Naomi Watts, and Jennifer Garner. But you don't
even need to be a star to get star tr eatment: The R ed Carpet facial, one of the most
popular tr eatments, is a custom-blended pr ocedure that exfoliates, brightens, and
smoothes the face. The cafe featur es seasonal menus of healthful, delicious cuisine pr e-
pared by co-owner Christine Splichal (wife of Joachim, whose Patina Restaurant Group
changed the L.A. dining scene forever). The boutique, Kinara Cadeaux, features a range
of exclusive luxury clothing, gifts, and beauty pr oducts. 656 N. Robertson Blvd. (btw. Mel-
rose Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd.), West Hollywood. & 310/657-9188. www.kinaraspa.com.
Ona Spa & Privé Salon Ona means “all things good” in the French Basque dia-
lect, and that's certainly the treatment you'll receive in the hands of Ona's Daniel Krasof-
ski, one of the top massage therapists ar ound. This small, full-service day spa specializes
in custom tr eatments using both ancient and traditional techniques, par ticularly
Ayurveda. The massages here run the gamut, from the $95 tension-relieving Ona Quick
Fix to the $220 O naaah, a choreographed four-handed tandem Balinese massage. Body
and facial enhancements such as laser hair r emoval, Botox, filler, and chemical peels ar e
also available, as is acupuncture therapy. On the bottom floor of the same building is the
Privé Salon, one of the city's trendiest salons where celebrity-sighting is common. 7373
