Strategy: 3. Reap the Rewards (a), (b), and (c)
Manner: The students developed Web sites for 20 professors and 10 companies who
evaluated the students' works later.
Results: The faculty members and company managers liked the Web sites and rated them
with averages of 4.5 and 4.75 on a scale of 5, respectively. All six managers expressed
their willingness to hire the students as computer systems analysts or engineers.
CONCLUSION
The incoming members of the Philippine workforce, particularly the graduating stu-
dents of noncomputer or nonbusiness courses, are not well prepared to face the challenges
of e-business, more so when compared to their counterparts in North America. However,
practitioners and academicians can help them overcome these predicaments by adopting
breakthrough strategies. These strategies can be divided into four stages, namely, evoke
exigency, develop desire, blur the borders, and reap rewards. These strategies that were
partly implemented in a pilot run proved to be effective.
