student (or to a team of two students). Furthermore, these RAUL microservers are available
to students remotely over the Internet. The department's ability to train students in
performing server-critical Oracle DBA or system administrative functions on servers re-
motely over the Internet is a much in-demand resource for students and is also a valuable asset
for the department and the college.
The main classroom facility UL includes:
•
First server (Sun Enterprise 250 model) controls access to microservers, supports
rebuilding software installation images on microservers, provides share ability for
some optional software resources, and supports regular UL operations
•
Twenty-five students' microservers are based on Sun Blade 100 workstations for Unix/
Linux/Java and Oracle DBA training
•
One instructor's microserver is based on Sun Ultra 10 workstation
•
One instructor's multimedia workstation (Dell Precision WorkStation 420) supports
multimedia interactive and distance-learning development and presentations
The Remote Access extension of the Unix Lab — RAUL — includes a server and three
groups of microservers:
•
Second server (Sun Enterprise 250 model) supports remote access to RAUL microservers
for faculty experimental development, remote products' evaluations and testing,
testing students' server-based projects and exercises, etc.
