10.4. WHAT IS TO BE SAMPLED AND HOW IS IT TO BE SAMPLED?
Once the PM has determined what the client needs to sample and what volume of sample
is required for the requested analysis, a bottle kit is prepared and sent to the client or the
field for sampling. The bottle kit includes the proper containers as determined by the
method used for the requested analysis. (See Figure 8.2 in Chapter 8.) Also included are a
set of instructions for sampling and filling out of the chain of custody (COC) forms
(Figure 10.4).
Once the sampler receives the sample kit, it is important that it be checked for
breakage or content errors before the sampling team goes to the field and begins
sampling. Specific instructions will come with the field sampling kit. After the sampling
event, the now filled containers are placed in the transport container, often an ice chest.
