Day One
Ancient Rome
Start the day at the Colosseum , Rome's huge gladiatorial arena - try to get there
early to avoid the queues. Then head down to the Palatino to poke around crum-
bling ruins and admire sweeping views. From the Palatino, follow on to the Ro-
man Forum , an evocative area of tumble-down temples, sprouting columns and ruined
basilicas.

Ancient Rome
After lunch climb the Cordonata to Piazza del Campidoglio and the Capitoline
Museums . Here you'll find some stunning ancient sculpture and paintings by a
selection of big-name artists. To clear your head afterwards, pop next door to Il
Vittoriano and take the lift to the top for Rome's best 360-degree views.

Centro Storico
Spend the evening exploring the Jewish Ghetto where there are some wonderful
eateries. Round the day off with a late drink at Bartaruga , near the Ghetto's
much-loved turtle fountain.
