HOTEL TAX
Everyone overnighting in Rome has to pay a room-occupancy tax on top of their regular accommodation bill.
This amounts to:
» €1 per person per night for a maximum of five days in campsites
» €2 per person per night for a maximum of 10 days in agriturismi (farmstay accommodation), B&Bs, gues-
thouses, convents, monasteries and one-, two- and three-star hotels
» €3 per person per night for a maximum of 10 days in four- and five-star hotels
The tax is applicable to anyone who is not a resident in Rome. Prices quoted in this chapter do not include the
tax.

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II) One of the few budget options in the historic centre, this is said to be
the oldest hotel in Rome, dating back to 1462. There's nothing special about the function-
al rooms but there's a pleasant 2nd-floor roof terrace, and the location near Campo de'
Fiori is excellent. No credit cards and no breakfast.

cardinals, then as a brothel, and now as a refined hotel. The look is classic, with period
furniture, gilt-framed mirrors and parquet floors, and while rooms aren't huge they're
bright and comfortable.
