shopping; excellent midrange to top-end options; good
transport links.
Decidedly upmarket area with
prices to match; subdued after

Near St Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museums; decent
range of accommodation; some excellent shops and res-
taurants; on the metro.
Expensive near St Peter's; not
much nightlife; sells out quickly
for religious holidays.

Lots of budget accommodation around Stazione Termini;
some top eating options in Monti and good nightlife in
San Lorenzo; good transport links.
Some dodgy streets in Termini
area, which is not Rome's most

Gorgeous, atmospheric area; party vibe with hundreds of
bars, cafes, restaurants and trattorias; some interesting
sights.
Very noisy, particularly on sum-
mer nights; expensive; hotel
rooms often small.
TRASTEVERE &
GIANICOLO
More authentic than many central areas, with good eating
and drinking options; Aventino is a quiet, romantic area,
Testaccio a top nightlife district.
Few options available and away
from San Giovanni not many big
sights.

Few sights; disused factories
give an industrial feel that's not
for everyone.
SOUTHERN ROME Trendy area with cool clubs and bars; on metro line B.
