On Sunday, the first section of Appia Antica is supposedly traffic free. On other days bear in mind that the first
section, stretching 1km from Porta San Sebastiano, is not at all pleasant to walk along and even on Sundays there
are still vehicles zooming along this stretch. The most atmospheric part of the road is from the Tempio di Romolo
to the Via Appia Nuova junction; this section is almost entirely traffic free every day.
If you're not planning to visit lots of sights, take the local bus rather than buying an Archeobus ticket.
