( 06 7045 0605; Via dei SS Quattro Coronati 24; pizzas €8; Thu-Tue, closed Aug; Colosseo) Locals
swear by Li Rioni, arriving for the second sitting around 9pm after the tourists have left. A
classic neighbourhood pizzeria, it buzzes most nights as diners squeeze into the cosy interi-
or - cheerfully set up as a Roman street scene - and tuck into wood-fired thin-crust pizzas
and crispy supplì (fried rice croquettes).

fare in late 2011, this boho Parisian-inspired bistro has quickly established itself on the
city's foodie map. It's a good-looking place with a striking zinc bar, 5m-high ceilings, bric-
a-brac on the white-tiled walls, and a menu that covers all the bases, with everything from
cocktails and coffee to traditional Roman pastas, steaks and delicious handmade dolci .

( 06 700 05 50; www.tavernadeiquaranta.com ; Via Claudia 24; meals €25-30; Mon-Sat; Colosseo) Tasty
traditional food, honest prices, near the Colosseum but off the beaten track - there's a lot to
like about this laid-back, family-run trattoria. There are no great surprises on the menu but
daily specials add variety and all the desserts are homemade - always a good sign.

TRATTORIA
( 06 7707 9175; www.ilbocconcino.com ; Via Ostilia 23; meals €30-35; Thu-Tue, closed Aug; Colosseo)
An old-school Roman trattoria good for lunch after a morning at the Colosseum. With its
gingham tablecloths, outdoor seating and cosy interior it looks like all the other eateries in
this touristy neighbourhood but it stands out for its excellent pastas and imaginative meat
and fish mains.
