All-Day Dining
The latest food-related fashion to sweep Rome is large multipurpose venues that open all
day and function as bars, cafes, takeaways and pasticcerie (pastry shops), as well as res-
taurants. Standout examples include Romeo, a modish Prati eatery; Baccano near the Trevi
Fountain, and Porto Fluviale, a bar-restaurant in trendy Ostiense. But the high temple of
Rome's flourishing food scene is Eataly, a giant foodie complex that recently opened in a
renovated train terminus.
Terme di Caracalla
You can now go underground at the Terme di Caracalla to visit a pagan temple and the tun-
nels where sweating slaves used to fuel a vast plumbing system.
Città dell'Acqua
Escape the crowds at the Trevi Fountain and search out the Città dell'Acqua, where you
can poke around ancient waterworks and an excavated Roman street.
Pompi
If you like dolci (sweets), you'll love the new city-centre branch of Pompi, Rome's most
celebrated tiramisu maker.
Le Artigiane
A shop with a difference, Le Artigiane is a showcase for local artisans, a browsers' dream
full of handmade clothes, jewellery, and design objects.
Athea Inn
Bunk down in vibrant Testaccio at the Athea Inn, a great little B&B offering designer decor
and value for money.
Metamorfosi
In the upmarket Parioli district, fine-dining Metamorfosi has proved a hit with Rome's
gourmets.
