sage for some, and its most famous glove-seller is the place to do it. Choose from a kal-
eidoscopic range of quality leather and suede gloves lined with silk and cashmere. An ex-
pert assistant will size up your hand in a glance. Just don't expect them to crack a smile.

the Anglo-American is well stocked and well known. It has an excellent range of literat-
ure, travel guides, children's books and maps, and if it hasn't got the topic you want, the
staff will order it for you.

Battistoni has been
a Roman institution since 1946 and offers the ultimate classic Italian tailoring, incredibly
elegant and exquisitely cut (off the peg, but the shop tailors to fit). The beautiful store
looks onto a courtyard and is adorned with paintings and photographs of immaculate
Battistoni-clad celebs, from Bill Clinton to Richard Gere. A men's suit costs a heart-ra-
cing €1600.

temple to subtly blinging accessories, this multistorey art deco building is the Fendi moth-
ership: this is the global headquarters, as the brand was born in Rome. Fendi is particu-
larly famous for its products made of leather and (more controversially) fur.
