Piazza Navona, this is one of Rome's great toy shops, an emporium specialising in
wooden dolls and puppets, but with a great mishmash of other stuff, from tractors to push-
chairs, doll houses and tea sets. Perfect for pre-/post- sightseeing bribes.

Not a comic in sight - this treasure-trove is crammed to its rafters with antiques. Wade
through the lamps that hang like jungle creepers and peruse old dolls, framed prints and
furniture dating from the 19th century to the 1940s, including pieces by the 19th-century
Viennese designer Thonet. You might even find the shopkeeper hidden away among it all.

This tiny little sewing
box of a shop is a delicate concoction of hand-embroidered napkins, bags and antique
pieces of jewellery, ranging from 19th century to 1930s. You can have pieces embroidered
on request, if you have enough time in Rome. Heirlooms in the making.

Just by
looking at its elaborate, elegant window displays you know that Al Sogno is more than
your average toy shop. Inside is a wonderland of puppets, trolls, fairies, fake Roman
weapons, dolls and stuffed animals. The don't-touch atmosphere is best suited to well-be-
haved little darlings.
