Tonino's might be defiantly low-key with its simple wooden tables and yellowing pic-
tures, but it's almost always packed. Don't expect silver service, or even a menu, just
straight-up Roman staples and honest local wine.

colours - this pocket-size place near the Pantheon has all the hallmarks of a good Roman
gelateria. The cream flavours are particularly good as is the house speciality, affogato di
zabaglione al caffè, a delicious coffee and zabaglione creation.

Emanuele II) La Montecarlo, a historic Roman pizzeria full of raucous charm, draws a mixed
crowd of sightseers, locals and even the occasional city celeb. Expect thin, wood-charred
pizzas, paper tablecloths, milling queues and turbocharged waiters.

inside tables and a mile-long menu of panini, the affectionately named 'dirty one' is a top
spot for a cheap lunchtime bite. The filling panini are made with pizza bianca and com-
binations of cured meats, cheeses and vegetables.

Barack Obama's daughters stopped off whilst pops was with his G8 chums.
