Isola Tiberina
One of the world's smallest inhabited islands, the boat-shaped Isola Tiberina (Tiber Is-
land) has been associated with healing since the 3rd century BC, when the Romans adop-
ted the Greek god of healing Asclepius (aka Aesculapius) as their own and erected a
temple to him on the island. Today, the island is home to the Ospedale Fatebenefratelli.
