In-Depth Information
Theatre
Rome has a thriving local theatre scene, with more than 80 theatres dotted across town,
which include both traditional places and an increasing number of smaller experimental
venues. Performances are usually in Italian.
Particularly wonderful are the summer festivals that make use of Rome's archaeological
scenery. Performances take place in settings such as Villa Adriana in Tivoli, Ostia
Antica's Roman theatre and the Teatro di Marcello. In summer the Miracle Players ( 06
7039 3427; www.miracleplayers.org ) perform classic English drama or historical comedy in Eng-
lish next to the Roman Forum and other open-air locations. Performances are usually free.

FOOTBALL
In this country of great passions, il calcio (football) is one of the greatest, and from
September to May, Romans flock to the Stadio Olimpico ( Click here ) to worship or curse
their team of choice.
In Rome you're either for A.S. Roma ( giallorossi - yellow and reds) or Lazio ( bian-
