Rusts are common on hawthorn and particu-
larly so in the central states, where junipers
should be kept at a distance. Leaf blight, begin-
ning in a moist spring, causes spotting and defo-
liation in August. When branches die back from
fire blight, cut them off several inches below the
visible blighted portion.
