In the deep South gardenia foliage is disfigured
with sooty mold growing in whitefly honeydew.
Gardenias are difficult house plants, dropping
buds with uneven humidity and temperature. To
control Phomopsis canker take cuttings near top of
plants. Substitute the more resistant Veitchii vari-
ety for susceptible Belmont and Hadley. Avoid
syringing, which spreads bacterial leaf spot.
