When garden chrysanthemums have foliage
browning and dying progressively up the stem,
the cause can be leaf nematodes, Septoria leaf
spots, or Verticillium wilt. To reduce spread of
nematodes home gardeners should take tip cut-
tings rather than crown divisions. Commercial
growers should procure stock free from stunt
and other virus diseases.
