its name, groups of 6 to 50 very small, slightly
elevated, superficial black dots connected with
very fine threads. Spots may extend entirely
around blackberry canes and shoots.

Spots appear on fruits in July or early August,
deeper red on the colored face of apples, darker
green on the lighter surface. They are irregular,
slightly sunken, more abundant near the calyx
end of the fruit, usually with centers flecked
with black. The symptoms on quince are more
of a blotch than a definite spot.
