6. Final Remarks
and Conclusions
What role does mitochondrial stress play in neurodegenerative
diseases? The massive amount of evidence supporting the impor-
tance of mitochondrial integrity in neurodegenerative events can-
not be ignored. However, more scientific research is needed in all
four of the areas discussed in this review to understand the com-
plex cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration
(Fig. 1 ). Hopefully, this knowledge will lead to more preventative
and curative measures for neurodegenerative disorders.
