Set in a rustic cottage high on the hill overlooking Skye, Raasay SYHA (
01478-660240; Creachan Cottage; dm £18; mid-May-Aug) is a fair walk from the
ferry pier (2.5 miles) but is a good base for exploring the island. Raasay House (
01478-660266; www.raasay-house.co.uk ; s/d £79/89, dm £30, tent per person £6) , cur-
rently undergoing a major renovation (but now open to the public), provides outdoor-
activity courses, a campsite and hotel and bunkhouse accommodation.
A CalMac ferry ( www.calmac.co.uk ; passenger/car £7.25/39 return) runs from Scon-
ser, on the road from Portree to Broadford, to the southern end of Raasay (15 minutes,
hourly Monday to Saturday, twice daily Sunday). There are no petrol stations on the is-
land.
