If you've just arrived by ferry, you've probably already admired Ullapool's line of shore-
front cottages; this is one of them. Under keen new owners, this sports appealing renov-
ated rooms with modern bathrooms and a very kindly welcome. It's got an optimistic, up-
beat feel that chimes with the super views from all the chambers. Breakfast features blue-
berry pancakes, vegetarian sausages or smoked haddock, among other choices.
Woodlands£

Excellent hospitality from the veteran but livewire owners makes this a top Ullapool op-
tion. There are just two comfortable rooms sharing a bathroom, and they don't take book-
ings much in advance. The breakfast is memorable, with your hosts making delicious
bread, marmalade and jams from their own berries, plus they smoke their own fish out the
back. A real treat.
B&B
Ceilidh Clubhouse£
( 01854-612103; West Lane; s/tw/f £22/38/66; ) Opposite the Ceilidh Place, and
under the same management, this annexe offers no-frills accommodation for walkers,
journey people and staff. A big building, it has hostel-style rooms with sturdy bunks and
basins. Though showers and toilets are a little institutional, the big bonus is that rooms are
private: if you're woken by snores, at least they'll be familiar ones.
