BISTRO
La Mirage£
( 01431-821615; www.lamirage.org ; 7 Dunrobin St; mains £7-12; 11am-8.45pm
Mon-Sat, from noon Sun) Created in homage to Barbara Cartland by the larger-than-life
late owner, this minor legend is a medley of pink flamboyance, faded celebrity photos and
show tunes. The meals aren't gourmet - think chicken Kiev - but portions are huge and
very tasty, especially the excellent fish and chips (also available to take away; eat 'em
down on the pretty harbour).
Getting There & Away
Buses from Inverness and Thurso stop in Helmsdale, as do trains (from Inverness £16.90,
2½ hours, two to three daily).
