In-Depth Information
circuit of Loch Affric (10 miles, allow five hours) follows good paths right around the
loch and takes you deep into the heart of some very wild scenery.
It's possible to walk all the way from Cannich to Glen Shiel on the west coast (35
miles) in two days, spending the night at the remote Glen Affric SYHA Hostel.
The minor road on the east side of the River Glass leads to the pretty little conservation
village of Tomich , 3 miles southwest of Cannich, built in Victorian times as accommoda-
tion for estate workers. The road continues (unsurfaced for the last 2 miles) to a forestry
car park, the starting point for a short (800m) walk to Plodda Falls . A restored Victorian
viewing platform extends above the top of the falls like a diving board, giving a dizzying
view straight down the cascade into a remote and thickly forested river gorge. Keep your
eyes peeled for red squirrels and crossbills.
