noon-2pm & 6.30-9pm. ) The 18-room Jura is the most comfortable place to stay on the
island; ask for a room at the front with a view of the bay. The hotel also serves decent bar
meals (£8 to £12) and the bar itself is a very sociable place to spend the evening.
BISTRO
Antlers££
( 01496-820496; Craighouse; mains £5-9, 2-/3-course dinner £25/29; 10am-6pm &
7-10pm Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm Sun Mar-Oct; ) This bistro makes the most of locally
sourced produce, offering coffee, cakes, sandwiches and burgers during the day, and an
unexpectedly classy menu at dinner time (booking essential) with dishes such as grilled
local lan-goustines, and scallops with black pudding. Not licensed - £3 corkage.
Getting There & Away
A car ferry shuttles between Port Askaig on Islay and Feolin on Jura (passenger/car/bi-
cycle £1.35/7.60/free, five minutes, hourly Monday to Saturday, every two hours Sunday).
There is no direct car-ferry connection to the mainland.
From April to September Jura Passenger Ferry ( 07768-450000;
www.jurapassengerferry.com ) runs from Tayvallich on the mainland to Craighouse on
Jura (£20, one hour, one or two daily except Wednesday). Booking recommended.
Getting Around
Bicycle You can hire bikes from Jura Bike Hire ( 07768 450000; Craighouse; per day
£12.50) in Craighouse.
Bus The island's only bus service ( 01436-810200) runs between the ferry slip at
Feolin and Craighouse (20 minutes, three or four a day), timed to coincide with ferry ar-
rivals and departures. One or two of the runs continue north as far as Inverlussa.
