In-Depth Information
Continue to Drymen, and turn left along the minor road to Balmaha , where you can hire a rowing boat for a
splash on Loch Lomond, or spend an hour or so stretching your legs on a hike up Conic Hill. Return to Drymen and
turn right on the A811 to Balloch, and then head north along the shores of Loch Lomond on the A82. The pretty vil-
lage of Luss is a good place to stop for lunch.
At Tarbet, keep straight on on the A83 to Arrochar with its grandstand view of the rocky peaks of the Cobbler,
around the head of Loch Long and then up over the scenic mountain pass known as the Rest and Be Thankful .
A sweeping descent through Glen Kinglas leads to the salt waters of Loch Fyne, and the chance for another break at
the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar or Inveraray .
Leave the main road here for the A819 north to Loch Awe, and some grand mountain scenery as the A85
squeezes along the lower slopes of Ben Cruachan; if the weather is wet, you can indulge in some underground sight-
seeing at Cruachan Power Station .
The hills fall away beyond the Pass of Brander as you reach the shores of Loch Etive at Connel Bridge; if the tide
is flowing, make a detour across the bridge to see the foaming Falls of Lora before the final few miles to Oban.
