Dalmunzie House£££
( 01250-885224; www.dalmunzie.com ; s £105-145, d £165-235; ) A noble
estate with a dash of Antipodean hospitality thrown into the mix, this classy retreat lives
up to the best Highland stereotypes: roaring fires, leather armchairs, antlers and decanters
of malt. There are four classes of room, offering plenty of comfort (some with four-poster
beds); the tower rooms are particularly spacious and worth the splash out. There's also a
beautiful library set up to help research into Scottish forebears. Dinners (£45) in the res-
taurant are opulent affairs with three courses broken by a cleansing sorbet; there are
money-saving rates, including dinner. As well as wonderful walks hereabouts, the prop-
erty offers golf, tennis, fishing and other activities; bikes are also hired.
HOTEL

lodge-style place has a good-time atmosphere and simple, comfortable rooms that drop
substantially in price outside of high summer and the snow season. There's a sociable bar
and a bunkhouse (without cooking facilities).

Good-sized rooms upstairs (rooms 2 and 4 are especially spacious) are well kept and have
