Getting There & Away
Stagecoach ( www.stagecoachbus.com ) runs buses from Aberfeldy to Pitlochry (45
minutes, hourly Monday to Saturday, fewer on Sunday), Blairgowrie (1¼ hours, two daily
Monday to Friday) and Perth (1¼ hours, hourly Monday to Saturday, one Sunday).
Local buses run a circular route from Aberfeldy through Kenmore, Fortingall and back
to Aberfeldy three times each way on Monday, Thursday and Friday. There's also a ser-
vice to Killin (one hour, two daily schooldays only), also via Kenmore.
KENMORE
Pretty Kenmore lies at Loch Tay's eastern end, 6 miles west of Aberfeldy, and is domin-
ated by a church, clock tower and the striking archway of privately owned Taymouth
Castle . On the loch is the fascinating Scottish Crannog Centre ( 01887-830583;
www.crannog.co.uk ; tours adult/child £7/5; 10am-5.30pm Apr-Oct, to 4pm Sat & Sun
Nov) . A crannog, perched on stilts in the water, was a favoured form of defence-minded
dwelling in Scotland from the 3rd millennium BC onwards. This one has been superbly
reconstructed and the guided tour includes an impressive demonstration of fire making.
It's an excellent attraction.
Kenmore is a good activity base, and Loch Tay Boat House ( 07923-540826;
www.loch-tay.co.uk ; Pier Rd; daily) can have you speeding off on a mountain bike (per
half-/full day £15/20) or out on the loch itself, in anything from a canoe to a cabin cruiser
that'll sleep a whole family.
