tour 4.30pm Mar-Dec, 10am-5pm, last tour 3pm Jan & Feb) has a better-than-average
tour that details the making of malt whisky and the blending process to create Famous
Grouse. There's also a dizzying audiovisual that takes you on a grouse's flight around
Scotland. Two tiny drams are included in the standard tour; more expensive tours offer
more detailed tasting sessions.
THE LIBRARY OF INNERPEFFRAY
For anyone that loves books, the Innerpeffray Library ( www.innerpeffraylibrary.co.uk ; Innerpeffray; adult/child
£5/free; 10am-12.45pm & 2-4.45pm Wed-Sat, 2-4pm Sun Mar-Oct, by appointment only Nov-Feb) , about 5
miles southeast of Crieff on the B8062, is a rare treat. Founded in 1680, it's Scotland's oldest free lending library, a
living link to the Scottish Enlightenment with its beautiful collection of tomes dating back to the 16th century, in-
cluding some marvellous, weighty Lonely-Planets-of-their-time. Best of all, the friendly librarians will get any of
these ancient books out for you to browse: a magical experience. The library's lovely rural surrounds invite strolling
and picnics.
