B&B on the right as you approach the centre of town from the west. Sparklingly clean

the Cellar is famous for its seafood and fine wines. Try the local crab, lobster or whatever
delicacies they've brought in that day. Inside it's elegant and upmarket. Advance bookings
are essential.

(16 High St W; mains £8-11; ) This charming old pub on the banks of the Dreel Burn
has bucketloads of character and serves reliably tasty bar meals. Chow down in the out-
door beer garden in summer. There are also some top-quality cask ales.

Wee Chippy£
(4 Shore St; fish supper £5.50) The Anstruther Fish Bar is one of Britain's best chippies,
but we - and plenty of locals - reckon this one might be even better. The fish is of a very
high quality and there's less of a queue too. Eat your catch by the water.

Getting There & Away
Stagecoach ( www.stagecoachbus.com ) bus 95 runs daily from Leven (more departures
from St Monans) to Anstruther and on to St Andrews (40 minutes, hourly) via Crail.
AROUND ANSTRUTHER
A magnificent example of Lowland Scottish domestic architecture, Kellie Castle (NTS;
www.nts.org.uk ; adult/child/parking £9.50/7/3; castle 12.30-5pm Thu-Mon Apr-Oct,
open daily Jun-Aug, gardens year-round 9.30am-6pm or dusk ) has creaky floors, crooked
little doorways and some marvellous works of art. It's set in a beautiful garden, and many
rooms contain superb plasterwork, the Vine room being the most exquisite. The original
