This friendly Victorian house offers something different to the norm, with
tartan and florals consigned to the bonfire, replaced by stylish, comfortable contemporary
design that enhances the building's original features. Ruffled fabrics and ceramic vases
with flower arrangements characterise the renovated rooms. There are fabulous superiors
with bathrobes and big beds with great mattresses (£125) as well as cheaper top-floor
rooms that share a bathroom (doubles £55), but have lovably offbeat under-roof shapes.
It's on the main road on the eastern side of town.

characterful cottage that's a haven of good hospitality holds three snug en suite rooms that
make an enticing Trossachs base. They all have charm: we love the Kirtle room with the
original 17th-century wall exposed. Other delights include a lovely big back garden, a log
fire in the lounge and sociable chef-cooked breakfasts. It's on the right as you enter Cal-
lander from the east, before the petrol station.

ant home has a woodsy, hillside location close to the centre but far from the crowds. The
commodious rooms include a suite (£90) with great views. New owners will be in place
by the time you read this, but it should definitely still be worth a look.
