La Vigna££
( 01555-664320; www.lavigna.co.uk ; 40 Wellgate; 3-course lunch/dinner £14/24;
lunch & dinner Mon-Sat, dinner Sun) This well established local favourite is a great spot,
seemingly plucked from some bygone age with its quietly efficient service and, charm-
ingly, a separate menu for ladies - without prices! The food is distinctly Italian, albeit us-
ing sound Scottish venison, beef, and fish, and there are also vegetarian options. The set-
price lunch is fine value; the set dinner is available Monday to Thursday only.
