( 0141-342 4010; www.konakitaverna.co.uk ; 920 Sauchiehall St; mains £11-16;
lunch Mon-Sat, dinner daily) Not far from the Kelvingrove museum, Konaki is a friendly
and unpretentious Greek restaurant that makes a great morning or evening pitta stop. The
starters are a particular highlight of the authentic menu - in fact, ordering a whole lot of
them to share is the most enjoyable way to eat. There are several Greek wines to accom-
pany your meal; knock back a traditional thick coffee afterwards.

noon-9pm Sun-Wed, to 10pm Thu-Sat) This temple to Scottish dining and drinking is a su-
perb venue in an old church. Giving new meaning to the word 'conversion', the brasserie
pumps out high-quality meals in a dark, Mackintosh-inspired space. The menu runs from
burgers to more elaborate mains and, at the time of writing, there was a great-value two-
course special for £13 from four until close.

( www.baytreecafe.com ; 403 Great Western Rd; mains £6-10; 9am-10pm Mon-Sat, to
9pm Sun; ) There are many good cafes in the two or three blocks around here, but
the Bay Tree is still our favourite. With lots of vegan and vegetarian options, it has smil-
ing staff, filling mains (mostly Middle Eastern and Greek), generous salads and a good
range of hot drinks. The cafe is famous for its all-day breakfasts.

78 Cafe Bar£

fortable lounge than your typical veggie restaurant, this offers cosy couch seating and re-
assuringly solid wooden tables, as well as an inviting range of ales. The low-priced vegan
food includes hearty stews and curries, and there's regular live music in a very welcoming
atmosphere.
