City favourite is an atmospheric pub-restaurant with four stylish rooms upstairs. They are
all quite distinct and colourful. Room 1 is the best and largest, but all are comfortable, and
the location is great. The personal touches like fresh flowers, iPod docks, a big welcome
and any-time breakfast make you feel special.

successful conversion of an elegant city centre building by an American chain of
boutique-style hotels has resulted in this satisfying option in the heart of things. It was
once the power station for the first trams, but these days is surprisingly quiet for this
downtown location. Rooms have been individually decorated to some extent, with mural-
style artwork, great beds and free minibar (with better stuff in it as you go up the room
grades). Space is good, and bathrooms have rainfall showers. Prices vary by demand;
there are usually good deals on the website.

Right by the train
station, this modish but affordable hotel has soft white, fawn, and burgundy tones in its
compact but attractive rooms, located above a popular bar and eatery. Large windows
make staying at the front appealing but, though the double glazing does a good job of sub-
duing the street noise, light sleepers will be happier at the rear. Rates vary widely by the
day, and there are room-only prices available.
