Emerald and Mackay.
Premier Motor Service ( www.premierms.com.au ) Greyhound's main competitor: has fewer daily services but usually
costs a little less.

Bus Passes
Bus passes are a good option if you plan on multiple stopovers. Book online or phone at least a day ahead to reserve a
seat.
Greyhound ( 1300 473 946; www.greyhound.com.au ) offers myriad money-saving passes - check the website for
comprehensive info. A few options:
» Kilometre Pass Gives you go-anywhere flexibility, plus the choice to backtrack. Choose from 1000km ($188) up to
25,000km ($2499). Valid for 12 months.
» Mini Traveller Pass Up to 90 days of one-direction travel along a dozen popular routes - including Brisbane to
Cairns ($339) and Hervey Bay to Cairns ($261) - stopping as often as you like.
Premier Motor Service ( 13 34 10; www.premierms.com.au ) offers several passes for one-way travel along the east
coast, including three-month passes between Byron Bay and Cairns ($215) or Sydney and Cairns ($313).
Car & Motorcycle
Queensland is a big, sprawling state - for the locals, driving is the accepted means of getting from A to B. For travellers
too, the best way to explore much of the state is by car - it's certainly the only way to access interesting, out-of-the-way
places without taking a tour.
