Food
Eating in Queensland, with its endless coastline and swathes of farming country, often involves seafood and steak (or a
combination of the two, known as 'surf 'n' turf' or 'reef 'n' beef'). You'll find cafes and restaurants almost everywhere,
with vegetarians well catered for in the cities and larger towns.
EATING PRICE RANGES

Gay & Lesbian Travellers
Historically, Queensland has a poor reputation when it comes to acceptance of gays and lesbians. Homosexuality was
only decriminalised in Queensland in 1991, after the fall of the National Party government.
Brisbane has a small but lively gay and lesbian scene centred on the inner-city suburbs of New Farm and Fortitude
Valley, with a few nightclubs, pubs and guesthouses. There are also gay- and lesbian-only accommodation options in
some of the more popular tourist centres, including Brisbane and Cairns. Elsewhere in Queensland, however, there can
be a strong streak of homophobia, and violence against homosexuals is a risk, particularly in rural communities.
