Kuranda's rainforest twitters, growls and snaps with all manner of creatures, and the town
itself is home to a handful of zoos and sanctuaries. The visitor centre has a full list; try
these ones for starters.
If you can wake 'em from their gum-leaf coma, you can cuddle a koala (there are wom-

This well-tended park lives up to its name,
with grassy camping sites enveloped in rainforest. The basic but cosy 'backpacker rooms'
open onto a tin-roofed timber deck, cabins come with poolside or garden views, and
there's a restaurant serving local produce on site. It's a 10-minute walk from town via a
forest trail.
