Innisfail & Around
POP 8262
Sitting pretty just 80km south of the Cairns tourism frenzy, Innisfail is a textbook example
of a laid-back, far northern country town. Fisherfolk ply the wide Johnstone River, tract-
ors trundle down the main street, and locals are equally proud of their magnificent art
deco architecture and born-and-bred footy (rugby league) hero Billy Slater.
Beachside Flying Fish Point is 8km northeast of Innisfail's town centre, while national
parks, including the Mamu Rainforest Canopy Walkway, are within a short drive.
