Reef HQ Aquarium

;
Flinders St E; adult/child $26.50/12.80; 9.30am-5pm)
Townsville's excellent
aquarium is a living reef on dry land. A staggering 2.5 million litres of water flow through
the coral-reef tank, home to 130 corals and 120 fish species. The backdrop of the predator
exhibit is a replica of the bow of the SS
Yongala,
which sank in 1911 off the coast of
Townsville during a wild cyclone, killing all 122 passengers onboard; it wasn't located
until 1958. Kids will love seeing, feeding and touching turtles at the
turtle hospital
. Talks
and tours throughout the day focus on different aspects of the reef and the aquarium.
