AROUND YEPPOON
The drive south from Yeppoon and Rosslyn Bay passes three fine headlands with good
views: Double Head , Bluff Point and Pinnacle Point . After Pinnacle Point, the road crosses Causeway
Lake , a saltwater inlet that's a top spot for estuary fishing. Emu Park (population 2021), 19km
south of Yeppoon, is the second-largest township on the coast, but there's not much here,
apart from more good views and the Singing Ship memorial to Captain Cook - a curious monu-
ment of drilled tubes and pipes that emit mournful whistling and moaning sounds in the
breeze. Emus Beach Resort ( 07-4939 6111; www.emusbeachresort.com ; 92 Pattison St, Emu Park; dm $25-28,
d/tr/q $80/95/105; ) is a superlative hostel, with a pool, kitchen, barbecue and a travel
booking service; it also offers tours to the local crocodile farm. Otherwise, Bell Park Caravan
Park ( 07-4939 6202; www.bellparkcaravanpark.com.au ; Pattinson St; unpowered/powered site $25/30, cabin $107)
is just stone's throw from the beach.
4.30-9pm) is an unprepossessing
Emu Park Pizza & Pasta (
07-4938 7333; Hill St; pizzas $12-24;
place, but the pizzas attract locals from Yeppoon.
Situated 15km along the Emu Park-Rockhampton road, the Koorana Crocodile Farm (
07-4934 4749; www.koorana.com.au ; Coowonga Rd; adult/child $27/12; tours 10.30am & 1pm) can only be
explored via the informative guided tours. After watching the man-eaters splash and dash
frighteningly around, get your feeble human revenge by sampling croc kebabs, croc ribs or
a croc pie at the restaurant.
