In-Depth Information
Roughly 5km north of the Maheno you'll find the Pinnacles , an eroded section of col-
oured sand cliffs, and about 10km beyond, Dundubara , with a ranger station and excellent
camping ground. Then there's a 20km stretch of beach before you come to the rock out-
crop of Indian Head . Sharks, manta rays, dolphins and (during the migration season) whales
can often be seen from the top of this headland.
Between Indian Head and Waddy Point, the trail branches inland, passing Champagne
Pools , which offers the only safe saltwater swimming on the island. There are good camp-
ing areas at Waddy Point and Orchid Beach , the last settlement on the island.
Many tracks north of this are closed for environmental protection.
